Tu autem, Dómine, ne longe fácias miseratiónes tuas a me: misericórdia tua et véritas tua semper suscepérunt me.

Quóniam circumdedérunt me mala, quorum non est númerus: comprehendérunt me iniquitátes meæ, et non pótui ut vidérem.

Multiplicátæ sunt super capíllos cápitis mei: et cor meum derelíquit me.

Compláceat tibi, Dómine, ut éruas me: Dómine, ad adjuvándum me réspice.

Exsúltent et læténtur super te omnes quæréntes te: et dicant semper: Magnificétur Dóminus: qui díligunt salutáre tuum.

Ego autem mendícus sum, et pauper: Dóminus sollícitus est mei.

Tuesday Terce

Before the Office is begun, it is commendable to say the following Prayer, the singular number being used throughout; for which Pope Pius XI granted an indulgence of 3 years (S. Ap., November 17, 1933).

Prayer

OPEN my mouth, O Lord, to bless thy holy name: cleanse also my heart from all vain, evil and distracting thoughts; enlighten my understanding, inflame my will, that I may worthily recite this Office with attention and devotion, and deserve to be heard in the presence of thy divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.

O Lord, in union with that divine intention with which thou didst praise God on earth, I offer to thee this Hour.

OUR Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

HAIL, Mary, full of grace; The Lord is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, JESUS. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V. O God, come to my assistance.

R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia, or Praise be to Thee, O Lord, King of eternal glory.

Hymn

COME, Holy Ghost, who ever one

Art with the Father and the Son,

It is the hour, our souls possess

With thy full flood of holiness.

Let flesh, and heart, and lips, and mind,

Sound forth our witness to mankind;

And love light up our mortal frame,

Till others catch the living flame.

Grant this, O Father, ever one

With Christ, thy sole-begotten Son,

And Holy Ghost, whom all adore,

Reigning and blest forevermore.

Amen.

Ant. The Lord hath looked on me.

Psalm 39, i

WITH expectation I have waited for the Lord, and he was attentive to me.

And he heard my prayers, and brought me out of the pit of misery and the mire of dregs.

And he set my feet upon a rock, and directed my steps.

And he put a new canticle into my mouth, a song to our God.

Many shall see, and shall fear: and they shall hope in the Lord.

Blessed is the man whose trust is in the name of the Lord; and who hath not had regard to vanities, and lying follies.

Thou hast multiplied thy wonderful works, O Lord my God: and in thy thoughts there is no one like to thee.

I have declared and I have spoken they are multiplied above number.

Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire; but thou hast pierced ears for me.

Burnt offering and sin offering thou didst not require: then said I, Behold I come.

In the head of the book it is written of me that I should do thy will: O my God, I have desired it, and thy law in the midst of my heart.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 39, ii

I HAVE declared thy justice in a great church, lo, I will not restrain my lips: O Lord, thou knowest it.

I have not hid thy justice within my heart: I have declared thy truth and thy salvation.

I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from a great council.

Withhold not thou, O Lord, thy tender mercies from me: thy mercy and thy truth have always upheld me.

For evils without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I was not able to see.

They are multiplied above the hairs of my head: and my heart hath forsaken me.

Be pleased, O Lord to deliver me: look down, O Lord, to help me.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 39, iii

LET them be confounded and ashamed together, that seek after my soul to take it away.

Let them be turned backward and be ashamed that desire evils to me.

Let them immediately bear their confusion, that say to me: ‘T is well, ‘t is well.

Let all that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say always: The Lord be magnified.

But I am a beggar and poor: the Lord is careful for me.

Thou art my helper and my protector: O my God, be not slack.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. The Lord hath looked on me, and hath heard my supplication.

Little Chapter Jer. 17, 14

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed: save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

R. Thanks be to God.

Short response: Heal thou my soul, * Because I have sinned against thee. Heal thou my soul, because I have sinned against thee. V. I said: O Lord, have mercy on me. R. Because I have sinned against thee. V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. R. Heal thou my soul, because I have sinned against thee.

V. Be thou my helper, forsake me not.

R. Nor despise me, O God, my Savior.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray.

Prayer

(Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary)

GRANT, we beseech thee, O Lord God, to us thy servants, that we may evermore enjoy health of mind and body: and by the glorious intercession of blessed Mary, ever a Virgin, may be delivered from present sorrows, and enjoy everlasting gladness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit.

V. Let us bless the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

V. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

R. Amen.

Amen.
